Packing and Preparing to Leave!

Bienvenidos (Welcome, in Spanish),

This is the Stony Brook Mennonite Peru Team's blog! We hope to be able to update this daily (if not, at least twice a day... and by twice a day I meant every other day, oops!) on our happenings in Peru, the status of the team's health, what we are experiencing/learning, what God is doing, and possibly posting some pictures. But, until we get to Peru, here's the debut entry about PACKING and PREPERATIONS!!!

There's always a lot of last minute details before a trip like this, and that can be a stressful thing! At the Jeff Grosh household we've been making lists and checking them twice and then twice more! Personally, I have already packed half of my suitcase and I am pleased that I will still have extra room! Packing light is not something that comes naturally for me, as I usually take a huge duffel and at least 2 extra outfits just for weekend excursions. But, I learned from my experience in International travel/living last spring in Central America that packing light has its benefits and I really don't need as much as I think I might! After our training after church on Sunday I started getting really excited for this trip. Up until that point it did not seem "real" and I hadn't really invested much time in thinking about/preparing for it. It was good to all be together as a team and ask last minute questions, sort out some details, share our own concerns and excitements and pray for our trip, ourselves, the people we will meet, the place we are going to, etc.

Please check this blog often as we will try to update it at least once a day! As I described in the blog there are 17 of us going so you will not always be reading a post from me! You may not know everyone who is writing but it will at least give you a taste of our experience there and let you know how we are all doing! We may try to be ambitious and post a picture or two depending on what kind of access we have and how "easy" that is. : ) We appreciate everyone's prayers as we go and would continue to ask for health and safety in our travel and throughout the week!

Thanks for sharing this journey with us!
